Announcing a new Internet service from AMSAT.ORG — an EchoLink conference server, *AMSAT*.

EchoLink is a Voice over IP system that lets amateur radio operators (only) talk to each other over theInternet. It can be used by individuals at their computers, or via simplex radio links, or through linked repeaters. It s very easy and fun! The software you need to communicate with EchoLink and more information about EchoLink are both available on the net.

A conference server allows many operators, links, and repeaters to share the same conversation. The new *AMSAT* conference server provides a place for satellite operators world-wide to congregate and chat. The server is up continuously. All amateurs are invited to
connect and give it a try.

AO-40 Update

AO-40 Update, 2003-04-07

ALON/ALAT is now 45/3 degs. We are beginning to raise ALAT to 20 degs. This will take about a week. Once we are at ALON/ALAT = 45/20 and have verified this position, we will turn off the passband and magnetorquer, and begin drifting past the sun, toward ALON/ALAT ~ 315/20.

Depending on final spin rate, the drift should take approximately a month. Once we reach this ALON, we will lower ALAT to 0 and passband will be restored, moved to the early portion of the orbit. We will then begin chasing the sun back to ALON/ALAT = 0/0.

AO27

Here s the latest update:

March 15th, 2003 UTC

software has been uploaded successfully to AO-27. The new commands are working great and ON-ORBIT checkout is continuing.

During the upcomming week control operators will be checking out the new scheduler and fine tuning the scheduler parameters.

We will be turning on the Analogue Repeater for time to time during this checkout period when we don t need to collect telmetry. If all continues to go well, we will be able to turn AO-27 back toNormal, self scheduled operations in a few weeks.

Thanks goes out to N1UC and W4XP for their tremendous effort in getting this new software up to the bird.

AO-40

The AO-40 team plans to test the S1 and S2 receivers with the K-band downlink on Sunday, February 23rd from MA 162 to 170 ( UTC ~19:26 to ~20:01.

This will necessitate switching OFF the S2 Tx during this time.

As is currently scheduled each orbit, the S2 Tx will be on, beacon only, along with the K-Tx during the 160 to 162
window.

However from 162 to 170, the S2 Tx will be off and only the S1 and S2 receivers, plus beacon, will be connected to the K-Tx. Stations with K-band reception are invited tomonitor the tests. Normal passband operation should resume after MA 170.

If weather or technicalproblems are prohibitive, we will
reschedule. Because this is a single event test, the N-blk will not be modified to reflect this test.
