Norge satsar på att få upp en liten satellit till 2013.
Så här skriver teamet om satellitens uppdrag.
CubeSTAR’s mission
During solar storms, turbulent electron clouds are formed in the ionosphere, causing distortion in satellite signals.
The phenomenon of electron clouds are far from fully understood. Research in this area gives us the knowledge that we can later use to notify space weather, and to improve equipment such as GPS receivers.
CubeSTAR will measure the structures in the electron clouds and improve the resolution 2000-fold, from today’s seven kilometers down to the meter level.
Det pågår även forskning med hjälp av raketer där man försöker att nå större kunskap om rymdvädrets påverkan på tex GPS signaler.

Det rapporteras om ett lyckat ballongexperiment med APRS där ballongen nu befinner sig över atlanten på väg mot EU.

Its on USA freq of 144.39 so will not be heard in Europe except by people
specifically tuning for it.
Just point your high gain beam east and monitor 144.39 and capture any of
the 1200 baud AX.25 packets!

När nu AO-51 tystnat så blir det ännu mera brått att få upp en ny lätt nybörjar satellit.
Fox-1 kommer att ha upplänk på 70 cm samt nedlänk på 2M. En av dom smartare detaljerna är att om batterierna kraschar så kommer satelliten fortfarande vara körbar i solbelysning. Ombord datorn ska heller inte gå ner och behöva ha ny uppladdning av programvara då satelliten ska ha ett så kallat zombiemode.

AO-51 QRT
AO-51 satelliten verkar tråkigt nog att vara QRT för gott.
Så här skriver control teamet.
It is with a heavy heart I report that AO-51 has ceased transmission and is not
responding to commands. The last telemetry data indicated that the third of six
batteries was approaching failure to short, and observations indicate the
voltage from three cells is insufficient to power the UHF transmitters. The IHU
may continue to be operative. Initial tests with the S band transmitter were
also not positive, although more attempts are in order. We have tried leaving
the satellite in an expected state where if voltages climb high enough, the
435.150 transmitter may possibly be heard.
The command team will regularly attempt communications with the satellite over
the coming months (and years). There is always the possibility that a cell will
open and we could once again talk to our friend while illuminated. Thanks to
all who helped fund, design, build, launch, command, and operate AO-51. It’s 7
year mission has been extraordinary. Please support AMSAT’s Fox-1 project, and
