(Howard skriver på Amsatlistan)

A few minutes after Friday’s sale, I had a purchaser change their mind, so rather than add the spare unit to the next sale, I’m making it generally available with all proceeds from the sale going towards AMSAT-UK launches.

Although every FUNcube Dongle sold adds to the AMSAT-UK coffers, this special unit, serial number 200, is sold with the added bonus that your name or callsign will be etched into the FUNcube spacecraft when it’s launched in the next few months.

*HO-68 problem.

In this week I received many reports from all over the world about faults of HO-68 telemetry beacon. After we analyzed situation of the satellite, we think that the software of payload management MPU was not running properly, the communication of onboard data bus between payload management MPU and the satellite management
unit was stopped because of the software crashes. It led to the beacon problem and abnormal switch of transponder.

Today we switched the satellite into safety mode at 0300Z , turn off most of onboard units, and then we re-powered up at 0440Z, the satellite was back to normal operating mode, so far the beacon operates normally.

We will not upload command to the satellite for transponder operating skeds of next week, we will monitor continually in next week. Please send your report if you find any abnormal operation of HO-68.

Space Bulletin 002  ARLS002

From ARRL Headquarters

Newington, CT  January 28, 2011

To all radio amateurs

SB SPACE ARL ARLS002

ARLS002 ARISSat-1 Blasts Off

At 0132 UTC January 28, a Soyuz-U rocket lifted off from the

Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan carrying the Russian Progress

M-09M cargo vehicle to orbit for a rendezvous with the International

Space Station (ISS).

In addition to delivering fuel, oxygen, food and other supplies, the

Progress contains the new AMSAT ARISSat-1 Amateur Radio satellite.

Progress is scheduled to dock with the space station on January 30

at 0240 UTC.

ARISSat-1 will be manually jettisoned from the ISS during a

spacewalk on February 16. The satellites features a new software

defined transponder that will provide simultaneous 2-meter FM, CW,

BPSK transmissions, as well as a Mode U/V (70 cm uplink, 2 meter

downlink) transponder.

More information is available at the AMSAT-NA website at

http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/index.php, and in the February 2011

issue of QST magazine.

AMSAT-UK FUNcube SDR Video

Nu finns en video på YouTube som visar en test på FUNcube SDR Dongle:

Henk, PA3GUO, has produced a HD video showing the AMSAT-UK FUNcube SDR dongle
receiving signals from Amateur Radio satellites.

The FUNcube Software
Defined Radio dongle covers 64 to 1700 MHz. and sells for around £125. It was
developed to support the educational outreach aspect of the AMSAT-UK FUNcube
satellite that will hopefully be launched towards the end of 2011.

On
the FUNcube Yahoo Group Henk writes:

YouTube video featuring the first
results;
– HO68 CW
– HO68 FM
– AO51 FM
– VO52 SSB
– OOREOS 1k2
AX25 (packet radio with MixW)

Results are amazing. The FUNcubeDongle
gives results similar to the
Kenwood TS2000x.

Tests are done with the
dongle straight out of the box, no tweaking.

Great achievement Howard
& team !

Note: satellite signals are very weak
and Henk used a Mast Head
pre-amp for the 2m and 70cm bands.
